The Bollywood actress enjoys a moment or two often with the keepers of trend and walks away after setting a high benchmark each time. Be it rocking the prestigious Cannes Red Carpet in saree and a nath or daring plunging necklines bare-chest blazers – trust her to slay in them all. Nobody quite owns the trend charts like her.

A major reason why Sonam will forever be our girl crush is that she never minces a word. The starlet isn’t afraid to take a stand, and mind you not every celebrity in her town does that. She will unabashedly throw her weight behind people and causes she believes us, even if it earns her criticism. Get you a friend who doesn’t hesitate to call out your wrongs and would take a bullet for you otherwise!

3. With contemporary choice of cinema, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is breaking the 'mold'

She gave us a dance number to play at every party for at least the next five years in Veere Di Wedding and also a movie like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga that made us sit up and take notice. Khoobsurat, Neeraja, Pad Man include some of her prominent works. She may not have a list as long as her contemporaries, but she does distinguish and stand out with her roles. This only goes to show that Sonam is not afraid to take risks and experiment, something we don’t see happen in B-town often.

4. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was called a Giraffe because she was "too thin"

As mentioned earlier, Sonam doesn’t step back from hitting back. She revealed on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show Pinch, “Till I was a certain age, I was called Giraffe because I was too thin. And then I gained weight, then I had a hard time with my weight. Sometimes, you don’t put on weight, then people are like, “Oh my God, itni patli hai, so thin” blah blah blah. Especially when you come from Punjabi family, and they feed you so much you gain weight, then they are like, bahot moti ho gayi hai, kaali ho gayi hai, lambi ho gayi hai, shaadi kaun karega?”

However, she also stood up and added that it is not healthy to say such things to people. Moreover, she has time and again emphasized that the looks we see on the screens should never double up as beauty standards. “But pursue prettiness for yourself, by your own definitions – not to meet culturally preset notions of “flawless”.Because flawlessness is a dangerous, high-budget myth, and it’s time we shattered it,” she once spoke in an interview.

5. A man who isn't afraid to love his woman the way she is, that's Anand Ahuja

We have often seen Sonam’s height tower over her husband Anand Ahuja’s. But never once have we seen her do away with heels or stilettos for that matter. This is the true sign of love. Her better half is not afraid of a couple of fewer inches and instead is always seen flaunting his gorgeous arm candy at every do they attend. If that’s not what love is made up of, we don’t know what is.

Wish you a very Happy Birthday, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja. The world knows we need more like you.
