Actor Mohit Raina, or shall we say the Mahadev of Indian television, made his silver screen debut with Uri: The Surgical Strike. Despite a brief stint in the biggest film of the year, Mohit managed to make a mark. He effortlessly moved the audience to tears after his character in the movie dies, impressing the classes and the masses alike. And if you still aren’t over his impressive acting finesse, you may want to because the dashing hero is now all set to enthrall again. Mohit will be making his digital debut with ZEE5 original web series Kaafir.
The digital drama also marks Dia Mirza‘s web debut who features as a Pakistani woman Kainaaz stuck in Kashmir with her five-year-old daughter Seher. In an exclusive conversation, Mohit shared that he quickly wanted to say yes when the script of Kaafir was narrated to him. “As an actor, whenever you are being narrated the script, in a minute or two you know whether you want to be a part of it or not. You always know which way this narration heading towards. I knew I wanted to be a part of Kaafir. No matter how I had to do it, how I had to become the character, it was just a matter of time.”
Mohit, who plays a journalist cum lawyer in the show, asserts that current times are the best for anyone to be a part of the industry. “I just look at it as a greedy person who is moving around in satisfaction of his creative needs, irrespective of the platform. As long as my needs get satisfied, I am more than happy with that. I am not looking forward to a particular platform to be present at, I can move around. This is the best time for anyone to be a part of the industry, irrespective of the profession. You can be a technician, you can be a writer, you can be a creative person, there is so much good happening all around. You just need to be there to grasp it and make the most of the opportunity,” he says.
Having transitioned from television to films and now the web, Mohit reveals he is open to doing content that satisfies him as an actor, regardless of the platform. “I’d love to be back on TV, but right now it’s a phase where the content provided is very nice. Irrespective of the platform, if I get the right script I’d jump into it. Till the time my creative hunger is satisfied, I am more than happy.” Contrary to what reports suggested, marriage is not on Mohit’s mind, “I was misquoted on that. Marriage is not on the cards right now. It will happen at the right time, it will happen soon. Right now, my focus is on satisfying my creative hunger and greed.”
