Nia Sharma barely needs any introduction, especially after her television stint with Zee TV show Jamai Raja. The third sexiest Asian woman reunites with her co-star from the TV drama, Ravi Dubey, for its web sequel – ZEE5 Original web series Jamai 2.0. When Ashivini Yardi went public with the news of bringing Ravi, Nia and Achint Kaur back in the Jamai franchise, fans were excited to know Siddharth, Roshni, and DD Patel’s story was set to move forward. However, in an exclusive conversation, Nia tells us a lot has changed from Jamai Raja to Jamai 2.0. Read excerpts from the interview below to know more:
Q. Did you ever consider Jamai Raja would get a sequel?
Considering the fact that Jamai Raja happened five years ago, and there were no plans to ever come back for a sequel of Jamai Raja. It could have been any other show I did, a web series but none of us thought this would happen. From the moment it was told to me, the very thought of it was so exciting, I just all in. I did not even hear the story and I just went all in, I was the first one to come on board.
Q. From then and now, what has changed?
When I did my earlier Roshni, I was 23. Now I am 28, and there is a huge difference in how I looked then and now. People would perhaps think what a baby she was in Jamai Raja, so there is reel and real transformation both. But nothing besides that changes for Roshni.
Watch the trailer of Jamai 2.0 here:
The story is not taken from the earlier plot. The characters remain the same, names are the same – Ravi, Achint and I play the roles. I am so glad Achint is still playing my mother. The first day when we shot, I was like, ‘sh*t, we never grew apart.’ Nothing has changed in the camaraderie. We came back the same way we left. We always kept in touch. Ravi and I were pitted against each other in a reality show after Jamai Raja. I, Ravi and Achint getting back together is the best thing about Jamai 2.0. I am glad the makers made it happen.
Q. Any changes we should expect in Roshni? We know her dressing sense is a lot evolved now
I remain this girl who is very happy in her world. That is Roshni, she is still unaffected by the worldly pleasures. My character graph remains the same. Styling-wise, I have given her more of a Nia touch. Because when I am selecting western wear, I make sure I create my entire look. So, I pretty much dived right in with styling my looks, every day I’d go with my stylist, select my clothes or make them get something I wanted with the outfit. Even with my earlier project, I take it in my stride and take the efforts to dress myself up.
The only thing that stays in Jamai 2.0 is three of us and the brand name. Other than that, my relation with Ravi in this series is much steamy and bold, I wouldn’t say erotic, it is bolder than how we were represented on TV. Of course, there is a limitation on how much can be shown on TV. Siddharth and Roshni are much edgier and very contemporary, like today’s couples are. It will be a shock to #SidNi fans!
Q. The web series has been shot in Pondicherry too. Tell us about that experience
Pondicherry, I won’t lie. Shoot wise, it was great. But I get bored. There was so much heat, I think I am going to switch to another shade of foundation (laughs). I was so tanned when I came back. I thought Mumbai was hot, and then I went to Puducherry, I was like no baba, Mumbai is fine.
