ZEE5 original series Skyfire is set in the sci-fi space revolving around disturbing weather conditions in 2012 India. Based on bestselling author Aroon Raman’s novel titled Skyfire, the web drama features Sonal Chauhan, Prateik Babbar. In an exclusive conversation, Sonal, who makes her digital debut with the show, spoke about going de-glam for her role of a historian Meenakshi Pirzada. She also reveals her personal theories regarding the subject of the series.

“The most important thing that immediately caught my interest was that the concept has never been seen before in India. I am a person who has a lot of conspiracy theories, I am always thinking what if this is happening because of that. The world is going through global warming, the weather changes that we are facing, I have my personal conspiracy theories. When I read the script, I thought if I’d see this as an audience it would get me thinking about the weather change and things that are happening politically. It is a very intriguing concept,” says the Jannat girl.

She further stressed on the importance of her role in Skyfire saying, “Another thing very important for me to make my web debut was I didn’t want to do a film or a series where I am there as just a prop. My role in Skyfire is very important and I am there with everyone cracking it together, so I am not there just looking pretty and filling gaps. Thirdly, my look is very different. I have never been seen like that. All these things put together made it very interesting and very challenging.” Skyfire also stars Tollywood superstar Jisshu Sengupta and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz fame Jatin Goswami.

Sonal drew inspiration from her days in Delhi to get under the skin of Meenakshi. “It is absolutely non-glamorous. We were very clear that I will be with no makeup. The hair is different but we have literally used no makeup. This girl is a historian, she is Delhi-based, and I have grown up in Delhi. I have seen women in Delhi, girls from Lady Shri Ram College, I used those little references in my head. I took bits from my own experience for the role and look. It is a completely de-glam look with a lot of meat and substance,” asserts the actress who was last seen in JP Dutta’s film Paltan.
