IWMBuzz Digital Awards 2019: Arjun Rampal, Dia Mirza & Other ZEE5 Stars On The Red Carpet

At the MTV IWMBuzz Digital Awards 2019, ZEE5 took home 8 awards in a variety of categories to showcase it’s dominance in Indian digital content. Top shows across languages like Auto Shankar (Tamil) and Rangbaaz (Hindi) bagged honours. While bigger stars like Dia Mirza and Arjun Rampal found a fresh lease of life in web series and were awarded for it, even relatively new actors got a share of the apple pie (read: awards).

The red carpet was choc-a-bloc with celebrities for the web space who are stars in every right. From ZEE5 Arjun Rampal graced the carpet. Arjun Rampal showed up with his girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades, while Dia Mirza was her usual graceful self.

Auto Shankar won an award for Best Web Series in a regional language. This series is based around the true story of a serial killer which is sure to send chills down your spine. Read more about their win here.

377 Ab Normal sheds light on the landmark Supreme Court verdict de-criminalising homosexuality. Mohd Zeeshan Ayuub from the cast collects the award with Rukhsar Rehman, wife of the director Faruk Kabir. The award was presented by Sangeeth Sivan, director of another ZEE5 Original Bhram.

Siddharth Misha who has written Rangbaaz as well as 377 Ab Normal, won an award for his work on Rangbaaz. Post his victory he sat down for an exclusive chat with us about his win and the next season of Rangbaaz which you can read here.

Arjun Rampal who starred in the ZEE5 series Final Call, won the most popular actor in a web series award. He later went on to say that web series have insured no actor has to ever retire again. He also mentioned that after working on The Final Call, he is now afraid of flying, and that he only feels safe after he has spoken to the pilot.

Tigers won the best digital film on web award and it was collected by Guneet Monga who gained popularity after Period. End Of Sentence, a movie she produced which won an Oscar. She described this movie as the toughest in her career.

Divyendu Sharma won an award of Best Actor (Short Film) for his role in the engaging movie Fatafat. However, he was unable to make it to the ceremony to collect the award. Divyendu Sharma also starred in Badnaam Gali.

Dia Mirza’s webseries Kaafir was well-received by audiences and critics alike. Dia Mirza told us how much this win means to her.

I’d also like to thank my wonderful co-star Mohit Raina and the little Dishita for being a sheer delight.

As the show was drawing to a close, the cast of Rangbaaz Phir Se took to the stage. Jimmy Shergill, Gul Panag, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Sharad Kelkar announced the new season releasing on 20th December. Joining them was the Rangbaaz and Rangbaaz Phirse writer, Siddharth Mishra.
