1. What prompted you to sign Abhay?
It wasn’t the character. I liked the space it was in. I like crime and investigation. Abhay was based on true cases, it just added to the excitement. These are cases you have read about, heard about, they are so close to the reality. Abhay, in himself, was such a complicated person, he has a past and the way he looks at things – all of these factors interested me. I am thankful to Ken Ghosh for the direction, even our DoP, I love the way the show looks like now. I am happy I was a part of Abhay.
2. Any similarity between you and your character?
We both have a very low tolerance for incompetence.
3. Do you think the web medium takes away the box office pressure from an actor?
Of course, but the business is completely different. In comparison to a film, a show is slightly more indulgent and longer. While it does take away pressure off the business, there is a romance in going to a theatre and watching the film on 70mm in a room full of people. It can never be replaced, but nowadays people also watch original films on OTT platforms. Having said that, you need not watch everything on the screen, not every film is a spectacle that you need to go to the theatres to watch. People are aware of that and hence there are certain types of films which are suitable for the web.
4. You started out as a child artist, would you be suitable to Inaaya making her acting debut
I am never going to make decisions for her. She is very very young right now. This is not even something that has crossed my mind. It is not on the cards right now. I am just happy to spend whatever time I can with her, she is one and a half right now. When she grows up, she can decide for herself and we will encourage her choice.
5. Amongst Inaaya and her cousin Taimur, who is more naughtier?
I mean, they are both kids. And they are exactly how kids are. I don’t think there is a scale to measure the level of naughtiness that the kids have. They are both lovely and we just expect that everybody’s best wishes are with them
6. What is the progress on Go Goa Gone 2?
We are all waiting and anticipating when that’s going to start. Everybody has the intention of making Go Goa Gone 2. There are some logistical things that are delaying the start of the film. I am hoping we can sort them out as soon as possible so that we can get together to make this mad film we all love so much.
7. 2019 looks good already with Abhay and Kalank. What’s in the pipeline?
I am excited. There is a lot of interesting things that are going to release. It is definitely going to be an interesting year with a couple of releases and a couple of things I am starting work on. It’s been a good start with Abhay and I am happy that Abhay has been received so well by the audience, the love I have received through Abhay is something we all work for. After Kalank, there is Malang and another comedy that is going to come later. There is a mixed bag of things happening.
Inspired by true events, Abhay also stars Elnaaz Norouzi and Sandeepa Dhar as regulars.
