Meet The Star Cast Of 2019 Biographical Drama Film The Accidental Prime Minister

Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and based on Sanjaya Baru's 2014 memoir of the same name, The Accidental Prime Minister is set to premiere on ZEE5.

The Accidental Prime Minister is a Hindi biographical film focusing on Indian politics. Based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Indian policy analyst Sanjaya Baru, the movie explores Dr. Manmohan Singh‘s tenure as the Prime Minister of India and the kind of control he exercised over his cabinet and the country. Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and written by Mayank Tewari, the 2019 flick is set to premiere on  ZEE5 on 25 May 2019. Thus, ahead of its release on the OTT platform, take a look at the star cast and who plays who in the film.

Veteran and award-winning actor Anupam Kher essays the role of Manmohan Singh. Going by the pictures and stills from the movie, it is needless to mention that he has indeed slipped under the skin of Singh.

2. Akshaye Khanna will be seen as Sanjaya Baru

Produced by the Bohra Bros under Rudra Production (UK), in association with Jayantilal Gada under the banner of Pen India Limited, The Accidental Prime Minister stars Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru. Besides being the author of the memoir, Baru was Manmohan Singh’s media advisor and chief spokesperson (PMO) from May 2004 until August 2008.

3. Suzanne Bernert portrays the role of ex-President of INC, Sonia Gandhi

Actress Suzanne Bernert features as the crucial character of Sonia Gandhi, former president of the Indian National Congress.  Under her leadership, the party went on to win the 2004 elections and form the government in coalition with other political parties. In fact, it was Sonia who had recommended Manmohan Singh as the choice of candidate for Prime Minister’s post. She herself declined the premiership following the 2004 victory and chose to lead the ruling alliance and the National Advisory Council.

4. Arjun Mathur plays Rahul Gandhi, current President of Indian National Congress

Arjun Mathur, known for his performances in sensational web series, features as Rahul Gandhi, son of Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul currently serves as the president of the Indian National Congress and is also a member of the Indian Parliament. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections 2019, Gandhi-led Congress lost of Modi’s BJP. However, Rahul swept to victory from the constituency of Wayanad, Kerala in the general elections held in India.

5. Aahana Kumra essays politician Priyanka Gandhi

Aahana Kumra, who recently appeared in Yours Truly, was roped in to play Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Daughter of ex-PM Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, she is currently serving as general secretary of the AICC in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. She also serves as Trustee of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
