Narendra Damodardas Modi, the Prime Minister of India, celebrates his 69th birthday on Tuesday (17 September 2019). Needless to mention, India shall rejoice the special day of its leader with great pomp and show. Ever since he took over the cabinet as a PM, Modi has been ringing in his birthday in a unique way year after year. This year, he will be visiting his home state Gujarat and witness a milestone as the Sardar Sarovar Dam is expected to reach its full capacity 138.68 meters. The birthday boy will pay his mother Heeraba a visit too and seek her blessings. PM Modi is also reported to spend time with differently-abled kids back in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. Besides, the Bharatiya Janata Party too declared 14-20 September as the Seva Saptah (week of service). It was flagged off by National President of BJP, Amit Shah, Working President JP Nadda, senior leaders Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta amongst others by cleaning the floors in Delhi’s AIIMS.

In July 2019, Modi was voted as the most-admired Indian in the world and the sixth most-admired man globally by an online survey. Being the only politician from India on the list, he sure has other international recognitions to boast which only go to say: Harr ghar Modi! He is clearly favourite among non-resident Indians in foreign countries and well-liked by world leaders. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this is a first for an Indian PM to enjoy a prolonged likeness from neighbouring and other countries. Thus, on his birthday, we take a look at the top honours Modi has received during his tenure as the PM of India.

1. Global Goalkeeper Award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Fresh off the list, Modi is set to receive the ‘Global Goalkeeper Award’ for leading the Swachch Bharat Mission, launched on October 2, 2014. The United Arab Emirated conferred UAE’s highest civilian award, Order of Zayed, on Narendra Modi in recognition of the “pivotal role” he played to boost ties between UAE and India.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan tweeted “We have historical and comprehensive strategic ties with India, reinforced by the pivotal role of my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave these relations a big boost. In appreciation of his efforts, the UAE President grants him the Zayed Medal.”

4. Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen

India has been throwing its weight behind the ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and the Indian Prime Minister has been encouraging bilateral relations with Maldives. This award is the country’s highest honour accorded to foreign dignitaries.

5. Order of St Andrew the Apostle

In April 2019, Modi received the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, the highest order of the Russian Federation. His efforts to facilitate partnership and friendly relations between Russia and India were honoured.

Besides these, Modi has been the recipient of Seoul Peace Prize 2018, UNEP Champions of the Earth Award, Grand Collar of the State of Palestine, Amir Amanullah Khan Award, King Abdulaziz Sash Award amongst many other laurels. He also bagged Time Person of the Year in 2016 followed by a feature in the  TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2017. He was ranked 9th in Forbes World’s Most Powerful People list 2018.
