New Zee TV show Hamari Bahu Silk revolves around Paakhi (Chahat Pandey), who works as a dubbing artist in sensuous movies. She finds herself torn between log kya kahenge and earning a livelihood for her family. The daily soap, undoubtedly, aims to debunk the stereotypes that society attaches to a woman. However, there are several women who lead by example and have broken the mold to chase their passion and dreams.

When speaking of females who shattered the glass ceiling, the list is not complete without global icon Priyanka Chopra. She was bullied in childhood for being dark and even told that “Indians aren’t cut out for Hollywood” as revealed to a leading magazine. Mary Kom is the only woman to become World Amateur Boxing champion for a record six times. She is also the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the seven world championships. Initially, Kom hid her interest in wrestling from her own father, who believed it could ruin her face and chances of marriage thereafter. Coming from a humble background, Mary definitely fought the odds and didn’t succumb to anything but her passion.

Her life inspired Omung Kumar’s film by her name, wherein Priyanka played Mary.

Ekta Kapoor had her first show running and gaining popularity when she was just 19! With life throwing curveballs one after the other, Ekta kept testing new waters and went for a straight dive with her creativity.
