Well-known for Ishqiya and Udta Punjab, director Abhishek Chaubey presents a dacoit drama in Sonchiriya. The Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer film is laced with a gripping narrative, power-packed performances, and intense fight sequences. After making the right noise in theatres, the movie is set for a world digital premiere on ZEE5. Based in Chambal, Sonchiriya takes us back in time to 1970s focusing on various power-hungry gangs and rebels.
Besides Sushant, it stars Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Bajpayee and Ranvir Shorey among others in pivotal roles. The rustic tale is rooted in the valleys of Chambal, which have time and again enjoyed a moment or more with cinephiles for its entertaining stories. The promo of the film features wars and battles amongst different dacoit groups, vying to become the sole ruler of Central India, decades ago.
The gunfights and exchange of violence is worsened by the intervention of the government who is chasing them down. Bhumi is seen in a never-seen-before role of a fiesty lady who goes for the kill to safeguard her honour. Meanwhile, Sushant, Ranvir and Manoj are dacoits (leaders supposedly) thirsty for each other’s blood. Sushant’s character shows hints of abandoning the ship and going into a rebel mode. But will he?
